What are Dentures?

Whether it’s due to trauma and injury, oral hygiene, malnutrition, or plain old genetics, it’s very common for people to lose teeth. A denture is a set of artificial teeth used to replace lost teeth. They serve to restore both the aesthetic appeal of a smile and the ability to properly chew food.

Denture Reline

A denture reline is a process which reshapes the underside of a denture to fit more comfortably against your gums. In our experience, it’s worth it to have your denture reline done in a dental lab as opposed to having it done In-Office. This is because the lab will ensure that the denture is more durable, stain and break resistant, has a better fit, and won’t require constant adjustments. A denture reline done in a lab can last over 10 years, compared to others which sometimes last less than a single year.

Types of Dentures

There are three main types of dentures:

Removable Partial Dentures are used when a patient is missing some but not all of a row of teeth.

Fixed Partial Dentures (sometimes called permanent bridges) are crowns which fit over adjacent natural teeth to hold a sculpted synthetic tooth in place in the gap.

Complete Dentures are used to replace the entire row of upper or lower teeth.
