Sedation is beneficial in dentistry for a multitude of reasons, including:

  • Fear
  • Gag reflex
  • Sensitive teeth
  • Dental complexities
  • Fear of shots or needles
  • Embarrassment
  • Dental pain

Oral Sedation

Taking an oral sedative pill is convenient and safe. It has the ability to deliver a deeper and more effective relaxed state than other forms of sedation when administered by a qualified dentist. Your dentist will review your medical history and determine if an oral sedative is right for you during your initial consultation.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation – Laughing Gas

Nitrous Oxide, sometimes referred to as ‘Laughing Gas’ is one of the safest and quickest methods of sedation. The dentist will begin the flow of oxygen through a mask, and then slowly introduce the Nitrous Oxide until the patient is in a completely relaxed state. It’s non-allergenic and non-irritating, and also reduces the patient’s gag reflex and saliva flow, making dental procedures quicker and easier.

IV Sedation

IV sedation (Intravenous Sedation) allows the patient to achieve a state of extreme relaxation when deep sedation is required. The drug is administered through a needle directly into a vein, making it both the most predictable and preferred method.
